Ashlee is based in our workshop in York and plays a pivotal role in providing high quality engineering solutions for installation in animal feed mills up and down the UK.
What was your first job?
I started my career as an apprentice welder/fabricator at Portasilo, a bulk materials storage and handling company based in York, when I was 16.
This was a great start for me as it taught me welding and steel fabrication skills which I’ve developed and increased since coming to ISF.
When did you start working for ISF & how did it happen?
I started working for ISF in July 2021.
I had heard that it was a great place to work and so I sent in my CV and after an interview they offered me a job!
Can you describe what you do on a day-to-day basis?
As a manufacturing engineer my role involves fabricating and welding the parts in the workshop to the specification of the drawings before being assembled and fitted on site.
How has your role evolved?
When starting I only knew a small amount about the animal feed industry but working at ISF has broadened my knowledge and understanding of the variety of processes and components involved to keep the mills working smoothly and efficiently.
What do you like most about your job?
The varied work, one day you could be making a stainless elevator, the next a screw conveyor for transferring different types of product or slide valves to control the flow of the products! I also love having the chance to work inside the feed mills when the opportunity arises, as seeing parts I’ve made working in situ is really rewarding!
What advice would you give for anyone considering applying to ISF and why?
If you have the opportunity, then just take it! It’s interesting work and the team is great!
